This course focuses on the relationships between mankind and plants/animals, and their economic relevance.
It comprises two teaching modules: one about plants [by Piero Morandini] and one about animals [by Mattia Falaschi]; 6 ECTS (3+3)
•The plant part
deals with the
major classes of crops, the ways humans use them (as food, feed, fiber, flower,
fuel, fun
and pharmaceuticals), and
more generally with plants impacting on the economy, both positively and negatively
(e.g. invasive species) on a global scale.
The animal part
deals with the
economic exploitation of wild
animals; the
relationships between economical processes and wildlife distribution; the
assessment of the impact of animals that are harmful to humans or to
ecosystems, and the activities to control or eradicate them.Contact information:
